06 Aug 5 things we know 70% into the season
As we come on to the three quarter point of the season we know pretty much what’s going on in the MLB. The trade deadline has passed and teams either bought or sold. Teams are starting to distance themselves in the standings. The MVP’s and busts are looking more and more clear this time of the year. So here are a couple things we do know
The Dodger’s want to win the world series.
After acquiring superstar shortstop Manny Machado, they went out and got a top 5 second baseman in Brian Dozier from the Twins; and they did all this for a fair price. Dozier is known as a second half bat and should push the Dodgers to the postseason and possibly to the N.L championship series. Their pitching staff is a little beat up, but by playoff time they should be 100%. Kenley is back to being elite after a sluggish start to the year. So, look for the Dodgers to run the table in the N.L.
The Red Sox aren’t good, they’re great.
The Sox are on pace to finish with one of the best records of all time. After sweeping the Yankees this weekend they are starting to distance themselves from their division rival, and the rest of the league. The trio of Benny, Betts, and Martinez are lethal at the moment and should carry them well into the postseason. Acquiring Nathan Eovoldi will help the back end of the rotation, and getting E- Rod back before the playoffs would be huge. They are my favorite to win it all this year.
The A.L central is bad.
The Indians are the only team above .500 and will be the only team to finish above. .500. The Twins off-season signings did not pan out. Lance Lynn got traded to the Yankees and Logan Morrison is hitting below the Mendoza line after hitting 38 bombs with the Rays in 2017. Addison Reed has been on the DL most of the season and Zach Duke has been traded to the Mariners. The White Sox are young and you can see it when you watch them. The Tigers and Royals are in full rebuild mode after their glory days a couple years ago. Losing most, if not all of their star players.
The Rays had a great trade deadline.
This is a story not many are talking about. The Tampa Bay Rays had a great trade deadline. They got started by acquiring Tommy Pham from the Cardinals for mid- level to low-level prospects. They also got rid of Wilson Ramos and his overpriced contract. Then they went out and got one of the top prospects in baseball, Austin Meadows. Here’s a breakdown of the players traded and received.
Rays get: Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow, Tommy Pham, Jalen Beeks,
Players sent out: Chris Archer, Wilson Ramos, Nathan Eovaldi
If you ask me the Rays got some great young talent for the future.
The N.L playoff race is going to be fun.
With 10 teams within 6 games of each other in the N.L is crazy. The N.L is kind of like Big Ten basketball this year. They just all keep beating each other up. The Dodgers are hoping to separate themselves with the players they got, but they have to contend with the loaded lineups of the Rockies and D-backs. The Cardinals have won 7 out of their last 10 and are sneaking up on the Brew Crew who went out and got some key guys for down the stretch. All I have to say is sit back and enjoy the crazy N.L playoff race.
