26 May Cavs vs Warriors NBA Finals Round 3: Is This Good For The NBA?

Well here we go again. By now, this can’t come as a surprise to anyone. The NBA finals will feature LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers going up against Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors. This is the 3rd straight season for this highly anticipated matchup and also marks the first time in NBA history that the same two teams have faced off in the finals three times in a row.
In 2015 it was the Warriors who were victorious, defeating LeBron in his attempt to bring a championship back to the city of Cleveland. 2016 looked to have the same fate until an injury to Andrew Bogut and a suspension for Draymond Green turned the series on its head. The Warriors blew a 3-1 series lead and watched as LeBron and his Cavs teammates celebrated a game 7 victory.
Now these two teams meet again, with different story lines. The Warriors added super-star Kevin Durant to their already labeled dream team. After breaking the NBA record for wins in a season in 2016 and then losing in the finals, the Warriors come into this series with a lot to prove, a lot to fight for and of course, looking for revenge. The Cavs on the other hand have more or less the same core of players who helped them win last season. The major difference between 2016 and 2017 is that they’ve added depth in Deron Williams and Kyle Korver and they now know what it takes to win in the NBA finals.
Who is going to win this time around? That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind. The more important question should be is this really what the NBA wants and is it what’s best for the sport? The answer in my mind is a big fat NO! Of course this series will be exciting, it could even go 7 games like last year’s and turn out to be one of the best NBA finals we’ve ever witnessed. But what about the regular season or the rest of the playoffs? Do people even care anymore? Both of these teams cruised during the regular season and every expert had them facing off again in the NBA finals before the season even began. How is this fun or interesting? They’ve combined to lose 1 game this postseason on route to this finals rematch, making what should be the most exciting time of the year in the NBA anti-climactic and boring. The NBA needs to do something about these super teams because it is only a matter of time before people stop caring. Sports aren’t even half as fun when you already know who is going to win.
