29 Jul Lucas Giolito for Andrew Miller Swap?
Earlier this morning, Jon Morosi of the MLB Network reported that the Nationals have offered top pitching prospect Lucas Giolito in exchange for Yankees all-star closer Andrew Miller.
One might suspect that this is the Nationals response to the Cubs getting Aroldis Chapman earlier this week. They’d be right to assume that, seeing that Washington lacks a late inning shut down reliever. Papelbon hasn’t done the job in Washington and to this day I’m still wondering why they ever traded for him or traded away Drew Storen. This is a no brainer for Washington in my opinion. They have no shortage of starting pitching at the MLB level and would be getting one of baseballs best RP since the start of 2014.
The Yankees on the other hand have a difficult decision. They currently sit 4.5 games out of the playoffs with 60 games remaining on the schedule. They have been playing their best baseball in 2016 over the last few weeks and play a large percentage of their final 60 games at Yankee Stadium. Do they sell and do a quick rebuild? Or do they stand pat and try to make a late season run at the playoffs?
What do you think?
