2018 Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Guide–Week 12

2018 Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Guide–Week 12

Here we are! Sunday night, time to place the bids and set the waiver claims in those 12 teamers, 15 teamers and only leagues! Let’s dive right in! But first; follow me on Twitter @bieryplox33

12 Team Pickups:

Mike Soroka, ATL SP, 24 % Yahoo: The 20 year old polished pitching prospect will come off the DL this week and start against the Mets. Get him into your lineups asap.

Frankie Montas, OAK SP, 29 % Yahoo: You will see players graduate into more shallow leagues after being in previous weeks’ articles. Montas is the first example. The young righty is currently the 157 ranked player in Yahoo 5×5 roto leagues. I’d be very careful deploying him against the Astros this week, but I’d pick the guy up for the upside potential.

Carlos Rodon, ChiSox SP, 30 % Yahoo: The big lefty made his debut this weekend, and looked solid. It’s amazing how the fantasy industry has collectively cooled on Carlos. This guy was the next big thing, underwent injuries, and is now mostly an afterthought. Bet on Don Cooper and Carlos Rodon.

Brian Anderson, MIA 3B/OF, 27 % Yahoo: This week’s 12 team hitting options aren’t as attractive as usual, but the best this week is Brian Anderson. Though the Marlins have been as vanilla as Anderson’s name, the guy is producing high up in the Miami lineup. His .307 average is babip fueled (.387) but he’s a patient hitter (9 % walk rate) so I don’t see his average coming crashing down to far. Go pick up this batting average booster that can provide positional flexibility.

Andrew Heaney: Heaney has been shoving lately (over the past month): 34.1 IP, 2 wins, 29 K’s, 1.83 ERA, .9 WHIP. Go grab this hot hand, as the Angels appear to have shifted toward a 5 man rotation.

Trevor Cahill: He’s not over the hill, yet. The journeyman Cahill has made hay this season over the balance of 48.2 IP: 8.9 K/9, 2.77 ERA, .99 WHIP. Go get this player now.

15 Team Pickups:

Joc Pederson, LAD OF, 25 % Yahoo: Yung Joc has been SCORCHING of late, mashing baseballs! Over his last 17 ABs, he has launched 4 bombs, and he’s hitting a .353 average for a LA team that truely could use it. Go pick up this post hype sleeper.

Alen Hanson, SFG INF/OF, 9% Yahoo: Finally, the former high-ish end prospect Hanson is bearing fruit. He has found a home in The Bay and over his last week he is nearly hitting .600! Bochy will have no choice but to slot in the young standout into the lineup. Go grab this power-speed combo guy.

Aaron Sanchez, TOR SP , 51 % Yahoo: RIP Jackie Treehorn’s Home Run Jacka’s, my dynasty league team in the Real Fake Baseball Dynasty League (Paul Martin’s league). Due to injuries to my 2nd/3rd rounders, bad performance from some power bats, and the putrid performance provided by Aaron Sanchez, my team is in the dumpster. Sanchez has been dropped in some deeper leagues, and you should  pick him up based upon upside and pedigree. He’s coming off a pair of great starts, he has stuff, and has proven in the past that he can stifle big league bats.

20+ Team (& Only Leagues) Pickups:

Mike Montgomery, Chi-Cubs SP, 13 % Yahoo: Chicago has finally afforded Mike Montgomery a chance to start, and he’s hoping to give them no choice but to leave him in the rotation. His surface stats over the last month have been very useful: 25 IP, 2.8 ERA, .99 WHIP. Scoop him up in those deep mixers and NL Onlys!
Shelby Miller, AZ SP, 2 % Yahoo: In a sneaky move, you could go snag the former higher end righty Miller coming off injury. He should be back soon, and makes for a nice stash!

Steven Wright, BOS SP, 27% Yahoo: “Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect.” ~Steven Wright. Ironically enough, the Red Sox Wright performance hasn’t been suspect whatsoever, nearly getting a K per frame, racking up wins, and pitching to a sub 1.6 era. In the AL Onlys, snatch Steven.
