17 Jun 2018 Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Guide–Week 13
Good afternoon to all the fathers out there! I hope you are enjoying this hot, June Sunday. Let’s run through the weekly waiver wire options! But first, follow me on Twitter @bieryplox33
12 Team Pickups:
Yasiel Puig, LAD OF, 77% Yahoo:
Puig isn’t available in a ton of leagues, but he’s a power-speed threat, and wherever he’s available he must be owned.
John Hicks, DET C, 44% Yahoo:
Hicks has hit of late, a .375 batting average over his past 32 AB’s. Losing Miggy Cabz is bad for the MLB, but should benefit Hicks’ PT. His catcher eligibility makes him a hot add.
Leonys Martin, DET OF, 19% Yahoo:
Leadoff duties? Check. Power-speed combo? Check. Not a batting average drain? Check. What more could you ask for out of a waiver wire pickup?
*NOTE* The pickups for the 12 teamers this week has been a little weaker than usual. This happens occasionally, but just make sure to check the drops in your league, as each league has it’s own quirks and owners make mistakes in dropping guys.
15 Team Pickups:
Daniel Descalso, ARI INF/OF, 28% Yahoo:
While bouncing all over the diamond, Descalso has been smoking hot of late. The utility man has settled in nicely in the desert, to the tune of an 8 for 14 with 8 ribbies and 5 runs over his last week. He has a premium lineup spot on the D-Backs, and deserves a spot on your fantasy team.
Zach Eflin, PHI SP, 19% Yahoo:
Eflin has been running hotter than 1969 Chevelle over the past 2 weeks: 18.2 IP, 3 Wins, 17 K’s with a 1.9 ERA and a .9 WHIP. This young arm is showing lots of promise.
Freddy Peralta, MIL SP, 9% Yahoo:
Funky Freddy has another chance to take the ball this week vs Pittsburgh, and if he can stay hot he has a chance to seize a job. Rotowire’s James Anderson has Peralta nearly within his Top 100 Prospects (a must subscribe). I’d learn more 20 teamer with Peralta, but he has shown he can really perform.
Jonathan Loaisiga, NYY SP, 12% Yahoo:
Pinpoint control is the name of Loaisiga’s game, and he has a chance to reel off a run of good starts. He faces Seattle this week, but if you choose to not chase now, he won’t be available for speculation next week.
Lewis Brinson, MIA OF 7% Yahoo:
The former prospect has been simmering slightly of late, with 2 homers and a .256 BA over the past 2 weeks. He is all potential, and if you have a bench slot to stash him, I’d consider it.
Adam Ottavino COL RP, 50% Yahoo:
Mini-Hader. Miniscule ratios, 14.4 K/9, and 3 wins have placed the setup man as the 59th best overall player in 5×5 roto leagues, per Yahoo. He just got activated from the DL and maybe available in some leagues to scoop up. Ottavino has been a god-send in NL Onlys and will help you win in those innings cap (or K/9) leagues.
20+ Team (& Only Leagues) Pickups:
John Lamb, LAA SP, 0% Yahoo:
The former high end prospect has been through a lot, but he has finally resurfaced to the big leagues. He has a tough matchup this week vs Boston, so I’d sit the guy but scoop him up in leagues where rostering him may make a difference. In AL Only, pounce on Lamb.
Ehire Adrianza, MIN INF, 3% Yahoo:
Miguel Sano and his generous carriage is out of the fold, clearing the way for Adrianza to get regular PT. Adrianza plays a premium shortstop position, has gone 8-23 (1.052 OPS) in his last 7 games, and is out there in virtually every league except George Hubschmann’s Expert AL Onlys (all jokes aside, add George on Facebook and join his group: Rotoimbeciles).
Rajai Davis, CLE OF, 1% Yahoo:
The speed demon is starting to see more playing time and already has 12 steals in limited playing time. If you are doing well in counting stats and could use a boost in steals, there are worse options than the geezer speedster.
Happy hunting this week and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me directly on Twitter @bieryplox33
