2018 Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Guide–Week 15

2018 Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Guide–Week 15

    Another week of pickups!

Side Tangent: LeBron James to LA-LA Land! I’m not sure that he will ever be able to top the Warriors again, but he is in LA to even further push his brand, accept a new challenge, and play for one of the most historic teams in all of sports.

12 Team Pickups:

Keon Broxton, MIL OF, 15% Yahoo:

This speed demon has the CF gig in Milwaukee, due to a number of injuries in the Brewers’ OF. Broxton has 20 HR-20 SB talent, go get this supreme power-speed threat who’s improved his OBP in 2018.

Teoscar Hernandez, TOR OF, 36% Yahoo:

Teoscar has sneakily been a super nice play in ’18, he’s a top 200 roto performer to this point. He’s hitting super high in a respectable offense (top 14), and has provided some nice pop with a decent average.

15 Team Pickups:

Robinson Chirinos, TEX C, 15% Yahoo:

Chirinos has been smoking the ball of late: .385 BA, 3 bombs, 9 ribbies and 5 runs over his past 13 AB’s. He’s a must add wherever available in those 2 catcher league formats.

Jason Heyward, CHIC OF, 15% Yahoo:

The J-Hey Kid has been scorching of late, with a .393 batting average, 10 runs scored to pair with 7 ribbies and a homer. Expect him to continue hitting high in the Cubs order as he marches toward a nice 4 win season. He will provide stuff in all cats, while helping in average, where that has been hard to boost in this environment.

Nathan Eovaldi, TB SP, 8% Yahoo:

Flamethrower Eovaldi’s getting homered this year, he is allowing 2.04 HR/9, while his career mark is .86! Expect this to drop, causing his era to improve. Eovaldi already has an electric whip: .82!

Will Smith, SF RP, 12% Yahoo:

Bochy’s preferred guy to close games in the 9th could be Will Smith, who got the save Friday night vs Arizona. I’m not sure if it’s Smith or Melancon, but Smith should be owned where saves are scarce.

Steven Matz, NYM SP, 28% Yahoo:

Matz has been pretty decent this season, in an unspectacular way. He has an era under 3.7, a decent 1.24 whip and an adequate 8 K/9. I’d utilize the oft-injured Matz while he’s healthy, I’m sure he’s an upgrade over most guys people are using in mixers.

20+ Team (& Only Leagues) Pickups:

Sandy Alcantara, MIA SP 6% Yahoo:

One of the prized pieces coming from the Ozuna trade, Sandy Alcantara has arrived in South Beach. Alcantara has a filthy slider, and some upside, but a putrid walk rate. He is a wild arm, but has pedigree, and could provide utility at first in deep leagues.

Jordan Zimmermann, MIA SP/RP 1% Yahoo:

The Z-Man has done well during the month of June, he has a 2.7 era and a .9 whip. His season long 39:10 K to BB rate is decent over 41 innings. Use this overlooked veteran at his home starts (his home era is half his road era this year), if your AL only league is deep enough.

Brad Miller, MIL 1B/2B 1% Yahoo:

Miller has a chance to shine in Miller Park with the Brew-Crew, and he will look to capitalize. In 2016 Miller swatted 30 bombs and he habitually posts a 10 plus percent walk rate. In an NL Only, he could be a fantastic scoop.

Adam Conley, MIA SP/RP 1% Yahoo:

The former SP Conley has transitioned to bullpen in Miami, and has done a nice Josh Hader impression during this run: 16.1 IP, 18 K’s. 2 W’s and a 1.65 era to pair with a .86 whip. You know your league, and if those numbers from an RP are helpful, go get Conley.
